Fun Facts
Some interesting facts that I curate.
A blue hole is a circular, steep-walled depression developed in a bank or island that is open to the surface. It is akin to a marine sinkhole and is composed of carbonate bedrocks. A blue hole descends hundreds of kilometers and connects to mysterious tunnels.
The heads on Easter Island have hidden bodies. They actually extend into the ground when you dig deeper!
The arteries going down to birds' feet and the veins going back up are very close together, almost hugging each other, so close that most of the warmth going down to the feet is transferred to the cold blood going back up.
The stones lying close to the rail tracks are collectively called track ballast.
The word is a portmanteau of shortened versions of the words for empty (kara) and orchestra (oke), creating karaoke, or “empty orchestra.”
Remember the scene in Back to the Future where Doc Brown throws garbage into Mr. Fusion, powering his time machine? We might be closer than you think to generating electricity for our homes using trash, and plasma waste converters will do the job.
It functions as a built-in blanket in the winter and as a sunshade in the summer. The tail also helps them balance and can be used for communication. One researcher taught some squirrels on a college campus to open boxes that could contain either a walnut, a kernel of dried corn or nothing. Sometimes the boxes were locked. She videotaped the results and found that the squirrels used a long, sweeping tail movement (as opposed to the usual twitching) when they found a box with no goodies or that was locked. She isn't sure if that tail movement was an expression of disgust or a warning to other squirrels not to waste their time. Squirrels use that same tail movement when they get into fighting mode.
